Last week I was sent in for an 'extra ultrasound' to see how big baby was since (as doc put it) 'he seems adamant about coming out sooner than later'. They asked me to come back yesterday for a follow up to check fluid levels, and when I asked why I was told the baby was squirming too much for them to get a good picture.

After a whole lot of kidney pics yesterday they had a doctor come in and talk to me - apparently the follow up was due to the ureters being massively dilated and significant urine build up in the kidneys. I was basically told that we would need to have an ultrasound of the baby's kidneys and bladder as soon as he's born to try to figure out what is causing the blockage/where it is and that it could be self correcting or he could need months of specialists and surgery/ies, but there is no way to know now. They did say that it is safe to continue carrying so long as my fluid levels dont start to drop since hes now in a sterile environment, but that I have to be closely monitored.

As much as I know this isnt life threatening or severe compared to some issues he could have its killing me that up until literally the day before I hit term I was told he looks super healthy, everythings perfect, etc and now this. I cant help but cry when I realize the first who-knows-how-many months of my baby's life may be spent going from specialist to specialist, hospital to hospital and undergoing neonatal reconstructive surgeries!? I keep wondering why this happened and the dr assured me about a dozen times that there was NOTHING I could have done to prevent it, these things just happen.

My family is all assuring me, too, that while its not ideal its really not a big deal, and maybe its just hormones and shock, but im SO upset and stressed right now. I just want a healthy happy baby.

anyone else have this happen?

Haven't been through this but wanted to give you a *hug*

I hope baby is okay and won't need surgery.

Could you please tell me how it turned out. My baby daughter is 8 and 9 and I am 28 1/2 weeks. They told me that it could be a blockage or its a marker for downs syndrome. But since my early screening came back negative they didn't think it was downs. I am so worried.

HI ladies, please please can you let me know how this worked out for you?
I am 33 weeks and my baby has 14mm of fluid on right kidney. They also said this could be a marker for Downs but my Harmony result was 1 in 10,000.
I am so worried. I had never heard of this before x
