Third birth stories please!
Really want to know your experience, how long was your third birth compared to your first and second? Also was the transition stage shorter for you?
Thanks!

Third and fourth were pretty similar. Much easier than first or second. Transition was intense but quick. Pushing was very fast, maybe 2 mins. Second babies shoot out so fast it’s scary!
First water broke, 15 excruciating hours later she was born. 1 hour pushing while screaming my head off.
Second also about 15 hours labor BUT I was in denial until 3:30pm, even called the midwife who said sounded like prodromal labor. Didn’t get checked in to the hospital room until 5:08pm and he was born at 5:17, 2 mins of pushing.
3rd had contractions for a day that stopped overnight, picked back up at 6am, got to the hospital around 9:30/10am, she was born at 2:45pm after like 5 mins of pushing. Got really intense that last hour or so.

good luck!!

Your Third one sounds pretty typical with the stop/start labour.
Im happy to hear transition was shorter, that’s the only part making me nervous!
Thank you!

1st: Waters broke at 34+5 at 630p.m.and baby was born at 12:30a.m. so a speedy, preterm labor. I got an epidural at 8.5cm, I'd wanted it much earlier. Think fear made me tense up and therefore contractions felt worse. I was also unprepared, hadn't been to my labor class prior. Pushed for an hour.

2nd: Waters started a slow leak around 12:30 a.m. and by 4 or 4:30 a.m. I was sure it was my waters and not watery discharge. contractions started at 6 a.m. and she was born at 7:58 a.m. It was super fast and intense with only 5 minutes or so of pushing.

3rd: Had some on and off contractions the evening prior and was in bathroom a lot as my body was clearing out. Around 5 a.m. contractions started back up and I started timing. They were fairly regular. Left for hospital around 8 a.m. Around 1 p.m. I was at an 8 and an hour later I was 9. I was having back labor and having sooo much pressure so the midwife offered to break my waters. Once she did that the pain went from 8/10 to 20/10 until I was fully dilated which was only around 10 minutes, I think. I pushed for around 5 minutes.

So my 3rd was my longest but to be fair
, it wasn't exactly long.

I had much easier recoveries with my 2nd and 3rd, I think not having the epidural helps as you feel when to push and when not to vs being coached. I didn't tear with my non epidural deliveries so that helped as pain was minimal.

1st was 7 days overdue, induced, 4 hour labour with 45 mins of pushing.

2nd was 90 mins from first “is this a contraction?” To her being born, fetal ejection and no pushing (easy recovery too)!

3rd was maybe 2 hours of really light, not bothersome period pains that made me call my midwife wondering if labour was starting, and then 2 hrs 16 mins of active labour and 6 mins of pushing.

I didn’t have too many cervical checks each time (and none at all with my 2nd) so I don’t know about transition time. But I do recognize now that transition for me feels like “I just can’t do this anymore” and then baby arrives about 15 mins after that feeling.

DD1 overdue by 9 days and 3 sweeps later . Laboured for 17 hours before having water broken & forceps due to stress . Not a nice experience at all !

DD1 - 5 days early after 1 sweep- water broke on its own , soon as got the hospital she was born after 33 minutes of arriving at hospital! Home by 5pm the same day ! Was amazing haha .

DS - 6 days over due 3cm for 2 of those weeks and 3 sweeps later - laboured for 3 hours 1/2 hours . Waters broken , DS kept crowning with each contraction then going back, that was painful ! Stirrups finally got him moving ! He was big at 9lb 8oz for my small frame !

2 and 3rd much quicker and easier recoveries most likely due to the fact I had no stitches .

Good luck !

DS1-spontaneous natural labor at 37 weeks, 19 hours with fairly regular contractions every 5 minutes the whole time, 5 minutes of pushing after the dr broke my water. She barely caught him because he came shooting out so quickly.

DD1-spontaneous natural labor at 37 weeks, 19 hours long but my contractions were 10-15 minutes apart til the last 3 hours, 3 minutes of pushing after the dr broke my water. I had horrendous back labor with both my first two kids because they came sunnyside up but walking, sitting on the ball, and having DH do counterpressure during contractions helped immensely.

DD2-spontaneous natural labor at 38 weeks, 12 hours with very irregular but INTENSE contractions. I got an epidural after laboring for 2 hours at the hospital and being stuck at a 4 cm without being able to walk or breathe or even just sit on the ball during contractions. They put the epidural in and I went from barely a 4 to holding her in less than an hour. No wonder I was struggling with those contractions...

DS2-spontaneous natural labor at 38 weeks. 24 hours of contractions every 5-20 minutes. It SUCKED. We went in around hour 22 hoping I could beg for pitocin but figuring I'd just as likely get sent home. One nurse thought I was a 7 but couldn't tell since my water bag was in way. Another nurse thought I was only a 4. I was denied pain medication because she and the dr didn't think I was in labor enough to admit me and I got the best of both of them when my son was born without a single push and before the doctor even got to the hospital. (I was the talk of the maternity floor for weeks apparently because it was the first doctor unassisted birth there in a really long time. One of my nurses said she'd been working for 34 years and had never had a baby born without the dr in the room.)

And then there's my sister who has shortened each of her labors by at least 15 minutes every kid. And when her labors were only 4 hours to start with, that's quite a bit. She's now at the point where her doctor said if she gets pregnant again, she needs to head to the hospital if she even so much as THINKS she is in labor. (Her last two kids were born like 15 minutes after she's gotten to the hospital and the last one, she had prodormal labor for three weeks but only had one hour of actual labor. It was a darn good thing she and her husband were already in town that afternoon because she had one contraction and they had to go to the hospital because she felt like she was going to have the baby in the car.)

1st - 40+4 arrived. 14 days early labour, 27hrs of active labour. The pushing stage wasn't very long.
2nd -41+2 some on/off early labour then 6hr20mins active labour. The pushing stage wasn't very long either. (had a sweep)
3rd - 41+2 a lot more on/off early labour, intense early contractions, 1 false start then 3hrs of active labour. She flew out haha. (had 2 sweeps)
4th - 40+2 pretty calm ending to be fair, many false starts though, 18hrs active labour. Harder time pushing him out (only boy larger head) (had 3 sweeps)
