The first test is from 6w2d (several hours hold)The second test is 7w4d (today; one hour hold).

I am having an ultrasound done tomorrow at noon due to some sharp pains in the area of my left ovary. My OB wants to rule out ectopic.

Have any of you had lighter tests at random and everything was okay? I feel like every test I have taken in the last week was much darker than today and I am scared.

It could be the hook effect. Around 6 weeks the lines can start to lighten

This happened to me with my son and I freaked too. It was the hook effect. Heres a picture of mine. The top test was my first one of that day and I really panicked because it was fainter than the control line, so I tried diluting my next sample with water (the bottom test) and it was darker again.

I'd say it's the hook effect given how far along you are. The fact that it was just a one hour hold could have a definite effect too. Also, dye tests aren't great for testing true hCG progression because there are so many things that can have an effect on the amount of hCG in your urine. Time of day, length of the hold, how much fluid you are drinking, etc. I know the lines are reassuring and it's hard not to worry when you have concern(trust me, I know) but if you truly want to know what your hCG levels are, then you really need a blood test. If I were you, I'd try to stop testing because it's only going to stress you out more. And at some point, the tests just aren't accurate anymore because hCG levels are either too high for the strip to register or have leveled off (both of which are normal/expected in pregnancy). :hugs: and I hope the hours fly by til your scan tomorrow.
