I’m just about 32 weeks (baby is measuring ahead anyway) but my provider has asked me to go and have a GBS swab done this week along with blood work for ICP/cholestasis (I had cholestasis with my last baby and have progressively getting more itchy)

I’ve always had this around 36/37 weeks with my other babies and thought you waited as you can be negative but positive closer to birth and vice versa. I’ve never been GBS positive either.

I’m just feeling that it’s a little strange. Anyone else getting an earlier swab and can fill me in on why it might be done a little earlier.

That is strange… it should definitely be done as close to birth as possible. Here in the US the result is only valid for 5 weeks so they always do it at 36-37 weeks to be as accurate as possible. Whatever your result is at 32 weeks won’t tell you much about your status at birth!

let us know what they say!

I had one done at 24 weeks due to some pains in my upper bump and sticky cm and mines was ops I’ve so they’ve not tested again x

I also has ICP in my last 2 pregnancies. Diognosed at 34 weeks with DD and just 17 weeks with my last pregnancy.
I've been itching since week 14 this time but so far the highest my bile levels have got is a 13.
My itching got real bad from 25 weeks but at the moment it seems to of settled.
Hope u don't develop it this time hon. I'm 33 weeks now and I have been on the ICP medication Urco since 27 weeks just as a precaution.
Hoping to be induced at 37 weeks because the itching has drove me crazy. I know its gonna flair up again because it seems to settle for a while and the comes back with a vegance.
Not sure what the swab is ure talking about but just had to reach out from a fellow ICP sufferer perspective.
