Yes I’m horrible at naming my threads... sorry.

anyways, I’m a first time mommy. Breastfeeding seems to be a challenge for me. My baby is 4 days old. If he’s sleeping it’s another mission to wake him up to feed him. My nipples are big and he has a tiny mouth so my nipple is hurting from him constantly sucking the same small part.

I just really need some help. Everyone I know didn’t last long and just tell me to stay hydrated.

@Wishing_ I would really try and see a lc! I had big nipples and areolas and it was hard to get the hang of feeding my second because he was a teeny guy when he was born. Make sure you're getting as much of your nipple as possible in babies mouth, make sure lips are flanged and their jaw is nice and open. Also if your nipples become cracked you can put some breastmilk on them and let them air dry, I know it sounds like it would be counter intuitive but it was the best advice I ever received. I'll try and find a picture of a good latch for you, hugs!

If you have a breastfeeding clinic in your area get a referral from your midwife/GP, or get an lactation consultant if you can. It's hard to give BFadvice over the internet to someone who is struggling.

Just know, yes it's easy and natural for some women, but a lot of women have trouble. My first was 12 weeks of hard work before it became easy. And then my 2nd was 8 weeks and my third maybe 3 weeks. With my 2nd we did the BF clinic and that helped a lot. I BF'd all 3 for 18 months so if you stick with it i can become easier. But it was hard and I cried and worried a lot for those first weeks. Good Luck and seek out in person support xx You CAN do it. And if you are done and want to do formula, you are doing just as good of a job as a mom!! Go girl!!
