For various reasons I will be giving birth via c section at 37weeks 5days. I will also be formula feeding from birth and I’m trying to decided what formula to start with. My first choice would be Enfamil Infant because I’ve used it in the past and like it. However, I heard that babies born before 39weeks have a harder time digesting lactose and might do better on a partially hydrolyzed formula such as Enfamil Gentlease. If possible, I’d prefer my baby to be on Infant eventually if they can tolerate it (because I like that it’s milk-based, has a lower sugar content and prebiotics).

Does anyone have experience formula feeding an early term baby? Should I start with Infant and see how it goes? Or start with Gentlease and maybe switch when they’re older?

Hi! My son was 38w and 5lbs. The hospital had him on Similac Neosure. It’s the formula they use for babies who are low birth weight, premature, and/or in the Nicu. I liked that it came premade or powder. So I saved the premade for whenever I was out and about. He did develop some reflux and ultimately I ended up having to switch him to similac pro sensitive around 6 months. I had tried a couple other brands (blanking) and they made the reflux worse. But up until that point I was in love with neosure and was so grateful for it and how quickly my son caught up weight and height wise. Another reason I liked Similac was their rewards program. I got a $5 off coupon like once or twice a month? And every so often I would get a free thing. Formula can really add up so every dollar saved was amazing

@Snowfkemama when Is your baby due? I find most active parts of forum is birth groups, maybe if you ask there you will get more responses. I have no experience with baby formulas unfortunately

Gerber Goodstart Gentlepro in the big can (not the small one) is partially hydrolyzed whey protein with a slightly lower lactose content (70:30 lactose:maltodextrin - which is the least sweet of carb replacements in US formulas, good thing) , it also contains prebiotics (HMO) AND probiotics . Would be a good place to start.
