I visited my GP today with DD for her 8 week check up and vaccinations she is 9w1d and we have just been refered back to paediatrician because her soft spot is very small, does anyone have experience with this? Is it something to be concerned with? DD is hitting all milestones well the only main issue we’ve had is a CMPA

I know if their soft spot closes over too soon it can become an issue with the way their skull grows and forms . It’s called craniosynostosis .

Your GP should have really explained why she was referring you and if she thought it was that .

Hope your get your appointment soon! Try not to worry too much xx

Thank you id imagine if it was the dr that’s experienced with babies she would’ve explained it better.
We have an appointment due in February for a check up as DD has CMPA and was prescribed neocate and she had a problem with her belly button D: she’s not had much luck so far compared to her big sister. I will post how she gets on though xx

Aww bless !! Both my DD2 and DS had/have CMPA . So I know how hard that can be ! Thankfully DD2 outgrew hers at 3 1/2 years old . DS seems a lot more sensitive to diary than DD2 was but still hoping he will outgrow it by 5 too !
Good luck for your appointment ! xxx

Hope everything goes well with your appointment and your LO! My guy has a small soft spot, too, so we're keeping an eye on it. Dr says it shouldn't close up until 18mo so we'll just keep monitoring it and if it happens sooner then we will cross that bridge at that time.

My DD had quite a small soft spot but her doctor said some babies do have ones on the smaller side and just to keep an eye out for it closing too soon.
Your doctor should have explained why you were being referred to avoid alarm. Maybe the paediatrician will just be keeping track of the size of the soft spot to check it isn't closing too soon. <3

Hey everyone!
Thank you for your wonderful replies, it helps at this time it really does.
DD has her Paediatrician appt tomorrow few concerns soft spot has now disappeared with very visible ridges on the back of her head and it’s also an odd shape. Super bad eczema and possible allergy to latex has now been flagged after a few reactions.
i will update everyone tomorrow with what she says :) not speculating anything until we know more DD is a super happy baby with so much love and laughter and that is all that matters

Update from paediatrician appointment today.
Dr is very happy with DDs weight gain since being on Neocate and is happy to leave it with the dietitian. Also very happy with general progress :)
On the head front she couldn’t find LO soft spot and the back of her head is out of shape, fortnightly measurements to be done with the health visitor for further monitoring and back in 8 weeks if she is still unable to feel the soft spot and head shape has not improved we are being referred to a cranio specialist to have her fully checked out.

I am glad the Neocate is helping your DD that must be a relief seeing her gain weight too !

With her head being out of shape at the back does she think she’s got plagiocephaly or brachycephaly ?

I’m glad everything sounds really assuring though and you get your appointment soon with the specialist !
