I am currently not pregnant, but we're ttc number 3.
I'm just sort of preparing myself for what lies ahead and wondered if anyone can answer a question for me.

DS1 was only 8lb 2oz (delivered at 40+5), but DS2 was 9lb 8oz (delivered at 39+6). I did not have GD. They were both natural deliveries.
I was 9lb 10oz at birth, but my mom had GD and I was weeks overdue, delivered through CS.

My OB told me that he was surprised DS1 was such a large baby for my size (now 8lbs seems tiny) so DS2 was a huge surprise.

I'm fearful that number 3 would be even larger. There were some minor bumps during DS2's delivery ( I assume due to his size). And one nurse flipped after he was born asking me about GD (I didn't have GD) and he had to have multiple blood sugar tests before they would discharge us.

Does anyone know if doctor's typically do any extra monitoring/ultrasounds/precautions for moms with histories of large babies? I'm worried a larger baby would mean complications before/during/after birth based on my experience of a totally healthy 9lber.

My 3rd baby was my largest at 8lbs 12oz, she had shoulder dystocia because her hand came out by her face. The doctor ( I had only met her the day of my induction bc my midwife was unavailable) scolded me and accused me of having gestational diabetes, even though I get tested twice during pregnancy and passed the 3 hr test. She also accused me of self medicating with metformin ( I take this for pcos) she told me to never have another baby. She was horrible and rude. My daughter is just a tall kid and still is. All that being said, I asked my midwife at my follow up about it because we always wanted 4 kiddos. She said there is no reason I couldn't have another, even based on the notes from the rude doctor. She said they would just monitor the size of the baby and if the baby got too big they would give me a csection. With my 3rd I did have a couple extra ultrasounds because she measured big as well. I also had non stress tests twice a week from 30 weeks to check on the baby. I had those with every pregnancy though, I think because of pcos.

My first daughter was born at 9lbs 12oz and I did not have GD with her. With my 6 month old, I did have GD with her and she came out only 7lbs 11oz, but they did monitor her even before my GD diagnosis due to my first being so big and she ended up being one of my smallest babies lol. And I had to do the GD test 3 different times. So yes they will probably monitor you closer.

My daughter was 7lbs 5oz 2 weeks late and my son was 9lbs 1oz a week late. I was measuring big with my boy and had so many diabetes tests but didn't seem to have it. I dunno. Anyway I had extra growth scans and they checked the fluid around him more near the end. I ended up having a planned c-section. So I think hopefully they'll make the right decisions as they go along depending on baby's size :flower:

My first was 7.7lb, 7 days late. My second was 9.10lb, also 7 days late. I tracked within the "correct" size for gestation all the way along so there was never any concerns I'd have a big baby. The first I heard of it was when I was in labour and a midwife feeling my belly said "well this feels like a big boy!" (We knew he was a boy). With my third they did do a GD diabetes test just to rule it out but it came back fine and they also did a scan at 38 weeks to check size but they weren't too concerned at that point that I was having another big baby. The midwife doing my measurements in my final weeks was never concerned he was big either. He was born 13 days late and weighed 9lb exactly so smaller than my second. I wasn't too concerned either as other than a little blood loss after the second birth it was actually pretty straight forward. Try not to worry about it too much. The way I seen it was I delivered a big baby before and my body could clearly do it then so why couldn't it do it again? And also, I always thought regardless of the size it's got to come out so pointless worrying about it ☺️ just enjoy it, I always told myself as long as i was happy so would baby be ☺️

Big babies run in my family. My mother and I both passed the GD tests and just had large babies, and her mother had large babies too. My first was 9lb8oz, second 10lb10oz, I'm fully expecting my next to be at least 11 lbs. I was my mother's third baby and I was 11 lbs 11 oz. While my mother and I are tall my grandmother was not an especially large person, she was like 5'7 and thin and she had eight babies and they were all large. There's nothing wrong with you or your babies. It's just normal for some people and the doctors who are rude to you for it are simply ignorant.

My first baby was 7kbs and she was born 11 days early.
My second was 9lb 11.5oz and was 11 days late.
Some people just have bigger babies, there's no right or wrong size.

My first was 9lb 12 oz 6 days late
My second was 9lb 13oz 10 days early. I didn’t have gestation diabetes with either.

I was shocked with the first one, expected DD2 to be big but not bigger then DD1 with being early TTC #3 and expecting another big one - still hoping for a home birth though!
