Hi!
We’re most likely expecting our third boy (gender actually unknown but I have a strong boy feeling!).
I’m french, my partner is Australian and we live in Australia.
We both like the French name Maël, and Quentin is also on our list.
I feel like Quentin might be easier as it’s known in both languages, although pronounced differently. Maël seams fairly simple as well but not sure how it would be perceived in an English speaking community.
What are your thoughts?

Both are lovely. Seeing them written down I actually like Maël but being honest am unsure on pronunciation. So you may have to tell people but once you’ve said once they should know! I’d go with the name you like more :)

Thank you! That’s exactly the type of feedback I’m after. I know Maël is different and not known in English and that’s why I’m after people’s honest opinions on it. My partner wasn’t sure how to pronounce it either when he saw it written on my list but he still liked it straight away.
We both really like Quentin as well so there isn’t one that clearly stands out yet, but it’s nice to have options :)

I do think Quentin is lovely too. Sounds a hard decision!

Thanks for your answer! I love Quentin! The only reason I'm not sure about it is because the pronunciation is quite different in French and in English. I would pronounce it the French way and so would all my family and the French community where we live, but everyone else would pronounce it the English way. I can't really tell if this is an issue or not though... I guess he would just get used to responding to both... (just as a child who has a formal name and a nickname and both are being used?)

Wow, three children - that's great. How do you manage?
Quentin sounds cool, but I find it hard to pronounce the middle name. By the way, I'm also thinking about a name for a child now, so I'm looking for all possible meanings, people who had the same name. I don't know how this will affect the child (most likely not), but my parents say it's important.

I would say Quentin as Im not sure how Mael is pronounced, similar to Male? Possibly the chance of a bit of teasing with that one, whats your sister called Female kind of thing maybe :)

Mael would be my preference. I like Quentin but at least with Mael you will tell everyone how it is pronounced when you, and eventually he, is introduced, and that is the way it will be said in all communities rather than others assume they know the 'correct' way depending on where he is.
